The identities, the citizen’s card and our Orthodox caution

The following text was written by the members of the Youth Club of Holy Church of Saint Eleytherios Acharnon

A few years ago, politicians and the press world were supposedly concerned about the violation of the protection of personal data that is called religion, and finally wasted endless hours to create this new unreligious identity.

Today, the same who ripped off our faith from our identities in the name of the protection of personal data, come determined to impose cards full of real personal confidential data on us – criminal records, bank accounts, social security, medical history, all accepted!

A few years ago, during the time when we were forced to accept the new unreligious identities, the signatures against that measure that the Archbishop received were far more than the ones that each political party had gathered. But even though the government then was not able to boast that it represents more Greek citizens than the official Church on the issue of identity did not feel the need to justify her shameless imposition of her agenda.

Nowadays, even though there is a statutory Principle of Protection of Personal Data, the opinion of this Principle – that is necessary in order for any process of personal data to begin – has not even requested by the Government, as the same Principle of Protection of Personal Data has pointed out over a month ago. So, neither this time the Government feels the need to justify this measure to anyone, doing exactly the opposite of what was defending on the matter of identities.

Addressing to the whole parliamentary and wider political world, we, the members of the Youth Club of S.Eleytherios of Acharnon, would like you to know the following:
1. Taking out the name of our faith from our identities, you have also taken away the right to define yourselves as Orthodox. You did that on your own account and so, if you ask from us to include you among the Orthodox you have to act like it, not just because it was written down in your identities but because you truly want and feel it. And till you prove that, you have given us the right to consider you as potential Satanists, atheists, Jehovah’s witnesses, Buddhists of Mormons. You should have thought that better.
2. For the same reason, you don’t have any more the right to refer in an insulting and offensive way to Orthodoxy, its members and our tradition. You should respect us the same way you respect (or fear) the Muslims, although you have never dared to talk offensively about mosques, Mohammed or Allah. Unfortunately for you, the party is over – you should treat us at least in the same way.
3. With the respect that our religion deserves, you should take into consideration that you cannot do or say whatever you wish violating our religious principles. These principles together with our tradition are the ones that make us stand up for any government initiative that wants to deprive us of the right to buy or sell unless we have the indelible mark of the government power printed on our body or face, a sign with the form of a number or a name. Beside this, our religious principles are against any innovating and avant-garde measure, such as the citizen’s card with RFID technology. We don’t feel the need to explain to you these principles with the wisdom of our Fathers or with relative words from the Holy Bible since you are so above all these and not interested in being true Orthodox. We would just be satisfied if you just recognize and respect our point of view and beliefs. Even in our Constitution it is written that “the religion of Eastern Orthodox Church of Christ is the official religion in Greece, that holds firmly the holy traditions..” (art.3, p.1). You are therefore obliged to serve with unswerving loyalty our traditions, otherwise you will be found in the place of the offender of the Constitution of Greece – we don’t wish for it but if necessary we will invoke our constitutional right in order to resist in any way we can to your illegal will.
4. It is, at least, hypocritical your argument that the citizen’s card will help to fight corruption since the problem in our country has never been catching the guilty ones but for the laws to be truly applied by everyone. It is ironic your argument that with these cards things will be organized better – if that was what you truly wanted, you would have found a better automatic program in the data basis of every state agency, without needing to give us these cards that later will be stolen and falsified, so the only way of safety will be the printing of your mark on us. It is also ridiculous to spend so many funds on these cards, when more and more people are losing their jobs and their everyday life of themselves and of their children is sinking in the difficulties of poverty.
5. Finally, you should bear in mind that, whether you like it or not, this country was founded by the blood of Orthodox Fathers. This country was built with the firm will to be Orthodox and Greek – something that doesn’t suit either to Kissinger or to any other loyal of antichrist. You should be informed that our Constitution is written “in the name of the Holy, Consubstantial and Indivisible Trinity”. If this is not convenient for you and your interests you should then choose another country of this planet to realize them and not here.
6. We refuse to accept this card. Respect the Constitute of our Orthodox country and stay true to your obligation to refrain from offensive actions to our orthodox principles. If you have taken on secret commitments and personal obligations against the European Union or others, this is your problem, you should try to solve it on your own without implicating our country.

We very well know that either you’ll laugh with our arguments and show no interest at all, or at worst, you’ll throw accusations at us of not being law-abiding citizens. We will not be affected by this, because we truly believe that we act in accordance with the will of our Lord, Jesus Christ. The time has come for the believers to repent and for the non-believers to start taking Orthodoxy and all these things pretty seriously. In this way, we will start helping our country to get out of this crisis, which is primarily a crisis of the lack of virtue and morality.
